The United Cup provides excitement, and Team Argentina is expected to provide it in spades in January.

Competing in their third United Cup campaign, Argentina will travel to Perth for the second time, facing the United States, the reigning champions, and Spain in Group A.

The South American nation eyes its first trip to the knockout stage, with top 100 players Solana Sierra and Sebastian Baez leading the charge.

Sierra produced her best season to date in 2025, climbing 88 places in singles to world No.66. The 21-year-old won 36 matches, including two titles, with her most notable performance coming at Wimbledon.

Sierra advanced to the round of 16 at the grasscourt major, becoming the first female lucky loser to achieve the feat at the All England Club in the Open era.

The Argentine has been in enemy territory since March, training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain. Sierra’s learnings have helped fast-track her rankings ascent.

“I think the academy has really helped me," Sierra said, following her fourth-round loss at Wimbledon. “It’s a really good place to train and to be really professional. They have a big team, and they are really good people and super professional. I think I am really in a good place.”

She is set to face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro – who has also trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy – when Argentina battles Spain, as well as Coco Gauff during Argentina’s tie against the United States.

Sierra teams up with Baez, who suits up for his maiden United Cup campaign. The former world No.18 hopes to play his best tennis against Taylor Fritz and Jaume Munar – the latter also based at the Rafa Nadal Academy – in the group stage.

Baez maintained a top-50 ranking at year’s end after reaching three ATP finals in 2025. This included an eight-match winning streak in February, made possible by a successful title defence in Rio de Janeiro.

Although Argentina boasts a 1-3 record in their previous two campaigns, don’t let that fool you – they are capable of causing major upsets.

They open their campaign against Spain during the United Cup’s first session on Friday 2 January.
