There are 18 countries competing in the United Cup across six total groups in Sydney and Perth.
The top country in each group advances to the quarter-finals of the mixed-teams event, with the best-placed second-placed country from each city also moving on to the quarter-finals.
Below are the scenarios for quarter-final qualification.
Group A
- If the United States defeats Spain on Monday, the United States wins the group and advances to the quarter-finals.
- Argentina would be runner-up with 4-2 record in matches
- If Spain defeats the United States, Argentina wins the group and advances to the quarter-finals. Depending on the tie score, either Spain or the United States would finish Group A runner-up with a 3-3 record in matches.
Group B
- If Canada defeats Belgium, Canada wins the group and China finishes second in the group (2-4).
- If Belgium defeats Canada 3-0, Belgium wins the group and Canada finishes second in the group (3-3).
- If Belgium defeats Canada 2-1, Canada wins the group and Belgium finishes second in the group (3-3).
Group C
- If Switzerland defeats Italy, Switzerland wins the group.
Group D
- If Australia defeats Czechia 3-0, Australia wins the group and Czechia finishes second in the group (3-3).
- If Australia defeats Czechia 2-1, Australia wins the group and Czechia finishes second in the group (4-2).
- If Czechia defeats Australia 3-0, Czechia wins the group and Australia finishes second in the group (2-4).
- If Czechia defeats Australia 2-1, Czechia wins the group and Australia finishes second in the group (3-3).
Group E
- If Great Britain defeats Greece 2-1, Great Britain wins the group and Greece finishes second in the group (4-2).
- If Great Britain defeats Greece 3-0, Great Britain wins the group and Greece finishes second in the group (3-3).
- If Greece defeats Great Britain 2-1, Greece wins the group and Great Britain finishes second in the group (3-3).
- If Greece defeats Great Britain 3-0, Greece wins the group and Great Britain finishes second in the group at 2-4 and is eliminated from qualification contention.
Group F
- If Germany defeats Poland, Germany wins the group and advances to the quarter-finals.
Perth Runner-Up
- With the United States winning its Group A tie against Spain, Argentina is confirmed as runner-up in Group A with a 1-1 record in ties and a 4-2 record in matches. However, Argentina can still be overtaken as best runner-up by Greece or Italy if those two countries finish in runners-up positions.
- The losing country in the Greece vs. Great Britain tie will finish as runner-up in Group E. If it doesn’t win the tie, Great Britain cannot better Argentina’s record and therefore is eliminated.
- If Greece loses 2-1 to Great Britain, it would have an identical 4-2 record in matches and so sets percentage would determine the better-placed country.
- The winner of Italy vs. France on Tuesday will finish as runner-up in Group C. Italy can equal Argentina’s record with a 3-0 victory over the French, and sets percentage would determine who would finish best runner-up.
- France, having lost its opening tie 3-0 cannot surpass Argentina’s record.
